Big Shot Wednesday - Week #2, Bag w/Scallops

This week, we created a mini album with this month's featured die, Bag w/Scallops.  Unlike last week's vase, this project uses only the large scallop piece from the die and not the side pieces.  Here is the list of supplies used for our project.

• Card Stock - Bermuda Bay, Whisper White
• DSP - Pumpkin Pie
• Ink - Bermuda Bay (for sponging)
• Punches - Scallop Trim Border, Extra Large Fancy Flower, Boho Blossoms
• Embellishments - 1/2" Pumpkin Pie Striped ribbon, Pumpkin Pie button (from the Sherbet collection), two jumbo eyelets, hemp twine, a magnet, a decorative brad, and a glue dot 

The album is made by adding an additional score line in between the two existing score lines.  The actual measurement is 4-5/8".  We have included four pages in our album but you can add more.  The measurements for the inside pages are 4-1/2" x 2-1/8" and then score these pages at 3/4". The entire album is held together, on the left side, with two jumbo eyelets and the striped ribbon.

The "scrunched" flower is made using both the Extra Large Fancy Flower punch and the Boho Blossoms punch - three of each.  The decorative brad is made with Pumpkin Pie DSP and a non-SU brad maker.

 

As you can see from the above photo, magnets are used for the album closure.  You are now ready to add your pictures, words of advice, words of wisdom or even a few of your favorite recipes.

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #1 Bag w/Scallops

This month we are featuring the Bag w/Scallops die.

Is this not the cutest thing!!  It's even better in real life.  We know it's a little hard to see, but trust us, it makes the cutest vase for flowers!!  We loved the way the mini milk carton turned out using acetate so we thought why not try it with this die.  You are probably thinking that we forgot what die we were using this month.  That this doesn't look like the bag w/scallops.  Look closer.  We just used the two side pieces from the die.  While we were brain storming and trying to design all our ideas for the month, we just happened to hold these two pieces up at the right angle and there it was!

The vase is put together with sticky strip on the two scored sides and then adhered to a card stock scallop circle.  Another scallop circle was punched out of matching DSP, cut in half and adhered over the acetate - one on each side to cover the base and give it a finished look.

The vase is filled with clear "pebbles" so as to not take away from the acetate vase.  We created flowers with the Stampin' Up! exclusive die, Blossom Party.  We added buttons and attached wire stems.  The flowers were textured with the polka dot embossing folder.  The card stock and DSP is Bermuda Bay.

We included the picture using card stock, so you could get a better visual of what the vase looks like.

 

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #4 Mini Milk Carton

Wow, can you believe February is almost gone!  That means not only is it almost time for next month's Big Shot projects, but Spring is just around the corner.  Yeah!!

For the final mini milk carton project, we chose to create a mini crate to hold three of our mini milk cartons.  This mini crate was made with pieces of craft sticks found at the local craft store.  They were cut to the size needed - approximately 5-7/8" x 2-1/4" - and stained.  The crate was put together with hot glue.  We twisted wire and attached to the sides to create the handle.

 How cute is this little crate with the mini milk cartons!!  The cartons were made with Almost Amethyst and So Saffron card stock.  The scallop circle around the top of each carton is made with the Tea Party DSP.  A small tag with "happy easter" is stamped on So Saffron, punched with the large oval, then layered on Almost Amethyst  and punched with the Scallop Oval.  The "happy easter" is from "A Good Egg" stamp set found on page 46 in the main Stampin' Up catalog.  The Almost Amethyst flower is one of the flowers from the Trio Flower punch and the center is a yellow rhinestone brad.

  

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #3 Mini Milk Carton

For this week's Big Shot Wednesday post, we are thinking Spring and Easter.  We created the mini milk carton using acetate.  The box is filled with shredded paper and Easter candy.  The top is held closed with the small clothes pin that has been embellished with one of the small flowers from the Boho Blossoms punch.  The ribbon is from the "Ribbon Originals" Elementary group that can be found on page 182 of the Stampin' Up catalog. 

These would "dress up" your Easter table.  You could even use them as place cards by attaching a name tag in the clothespin.  

Big Shot Wednesday Week #2 - Mini Milk Carton

This small box really is made with the Mini Milk Carton die.  We LOVE the new Sweet Pea DSP.  We glued the DSP to So Saffron card stock for more stability, then cut one milk carton.  We cut off the top portion of the carton - the part with all the score lines.  We then adhered the box together with Sticky Strip after sponging everything with Chocolate Chip ink. 

The lid is made from acetate which allows the recipient a glimpse inside.  We started with a 2-5/8" square piece of acetate.  We scored all sides at 1/2" and cut all four corners up to the 1/2" score line.  Now, we aren't sure why, but we had to "mess" around with this quite a bit.  You may have to adjust your score lines.  These measurements worked perfect with card stock but were a little loose with the acetate.....who knew.  We found that Snail held the lid together AND didn't show - much.

The scrunched flower on top is made with the Scallop Circle punch and So Saffron card stock.  Of course, these scallops were sponged with Chocolate Chip as well.  The center is a brown button tied with Linen Thread.  There is a Chocolate Chip scalloped border along the bottom of the box. 

Big Shot Wednesday Week #1 - Mini Milk Carton

This month we are going to have fun with the new Mini Milk Carton die from the Occasions Mini catalog.  For week one, we decided to show you a fun way to use up your scraps of DSP AND have fun with the milk carton as a milk carton. 

We took a half sheet of Very Vanilla card stock (5-1/2" x 8-1/2") and glued strips of the Sending Love DSP in a single row.  On one sample we used all of the different paper patterns and the other we used just three of the patterns.  The top milk carton is trimmed with a Very Vanilla strip scalloped with the punch and everything has been sponged with Chocolate Chip.  The other carton is embellished with Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon wrapped around the carton and tied in a bow.

These fun mini cartons can be filled with candy, buttons, decorated paper clips, all kinds of good stuff.  These would be ideal favors for a party, workshop or for a fun hostess gift.

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #4, 5-Point 3D Star

Do you remember Grandma teaching you how to do the blanket stitch?  Well, we do and that stitch is all the rage right now for embellishing your projects.  We created these fun pockets with the 5 point star.  You need two stars for each pocket.  Do NOT fold in the top two score lines.  Bring the bottom point up to the opposite edge - just like last week's diamond.  Put the wrong sides together and start stitching.  Here is a link if you need help with the blanket stitch.  Blanket Stitch instructions

This is a small pocket but it is perfect for this pack of gum (or a Ghiradelli square).  We covered the gum with the new Sending Love Specialty DSP.  We used one of the hearts from the Heart to Heart punch.  It is made with Pretty In Pink card stock, sponged and embellished with a red heart button.

These are really fun and simple to make.  This is a photo of what the "pocket" looks like folded but before the blanket stitching.

 

 

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #3, 5-Point 3D Star

Diamonds are forever and this one goes without saying.  This 25-carat diamond ring - who knows how big this is -is made with Shimmer White and Brushed Silver card stock.  The ring is made by punching Brushed Silver card stock with the 1-1/4" circle punch and then the 1-3/8" circle punch.  The diamond has been embossed with Iridescent Ice embossing powder for extra sparkle.  Notice that this ring is actually displayed in an actual ring box - of course, the lid doesn't fit!!

 

The diamond is made by folding the two sides in and bringing the bottom point up to the top edge.  This diamond would be fun on a scrapbook page - maybe announcing an engagement.

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #2, 5-Point 3D Star

Who wouldn't want to receive a pretty bouquet of red flowers?  Can you believe this?  Yes, these were really created using the 5-Point 3D Star die and red tissue paper. 

We cut several layers of red tissue paper at the same time with the Big Shot.   Each "petal" is four stars.  The two scored lines at the top of the die (not the middle score line) were folded in, Tombow glue was put along this whole edge and then wrapped around a sucker stick.  You just keep going around and around the stick with the next group of petals until you have the fullness you want. 

We wrapped the small bouquet in shimmery tissue paper and tied it with the new Pretty in Pink satin ribbon.  We scattered Real Red and Pretty in Pink hearts made with new Small Heart punch found in the Occasions Mini catalog.

Here is a close up of the flowers showing more of the detail.  You can see that there are about 10 petals (40 tissue stars) per flower. 

This project is just in time for Valentine's Day, great for bridal showers, Mother's Day, etc.

  

Big Shot Wednesday

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #1 5-point 3D Star

This month our featured Big Shot die is the 5-point 3D Star found on page 199 in the main catalog.  Stay tuned for the month as we use this die for much more than just stars....although we love stars!

With the Christmas holiday just past, it is obvious that this die is perfect for stars.  But as you can see with our sample, you can make stars for many occasions.  This star is made with paper from the Simply Scrappin' kit, Love Sparkles, page 167, as well as, the new Sending Love Specialty DSP from the Occasions Mini, page 13.

Depending on what you are using the star for, you can reinforce the star with chipboard - like the kind found in the SU! paper packs.  The star has been sponged and faux stitched with Chocolate Chip.  The chipboard heart has been covered with Chocolate Chip craft ink and embossed with Iridescent Ice powder.  The ribbon is 5/8" Regal Rose Grosgrain.  A white pipe cleaner has been attached to the back of the star as a hanger.  The words are also from the Simply Scrappin' Kit, Love Sparkles.  The pink buttons are not SU.
