Big Shot Wednesday - Week #4 Serif Essentials Alphabet die set

For the last week, we made a "thick" initial for a key ring.  These are very sturdy and will hold up pretty well.  This "D" is made with Regal Rose card stock; about 12-15 were cut.  Each were glued together with a glue stick.  Let the glue dry and drill a small hole - large enough for your key ring.  We embellished this "D" (for Divas) very simple - bling and ribbon!  We used black, white, gingham and Regal Rose grosgrain ribbon around the key ring.

 
Here is a side view of all the layers glued together.  These initials are thick enough to stand up, so you could create the whole name or word.....friends, family, eat, welcome, etc.

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #3 Serif Essentials Alphabet

It's been such a long time since we created a shaker card!!  How about you?  Well, break out your die set because you are going to love this!  Just think of the possibilities for this style of card.

This card is made using Basic Black card stock and the new Designer Series Paper, Newsprint.

To create the shaker portion of the card, use the negative portion of the die. Ours measures 2-1/2" x 2-3/4".  Place acetate over the opening and outline the back with a thin line of mounting tape.  Don't forget, don't leave ANY small gaps in the tape as the "filling" can shake out.

We've finished off the front using some of our vintage dyed ribbon in Riding Hood Red.  We will be adding it to the collection later this week!  If you aren't familiar with the ribbon, check out the July 17th post.

Here is a peek at the inside of the card.

We cut and sponged a piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  Add a small border of Real Red that was punched with the Scallop Trim border punch.  

 

 

 

 

 

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #2 Serif Essentials Alphabet set

A - B - C - it's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3

Here is another great idea for this Big Shot die set.  What kid wouldn't love to learn their ABC's using these flash cards!

The cards were cut 3" x 4-1/2" using Very Vanilla card stock.  We rounded the corners, sponged with Creamy Caramel and embellished.

The letters were cut out of Basic Black, Real Red and Pink Pirouette card stock.  We embellished with ribbon, buttons, stamps....you can make these as easy or complicated as you desire.  You might even get the kids to help you so they have a vested interested in them!

We though we would share another great "teaching" idea.  We're sure most of you had those plastic magnetic alphabets you had on the refrigerator for the kids to spell and play with.  Why not create your own by die cutting the entire alphabet from magnetic sheets.  You can use card stock or DSP for each letter.  If you don't want the entire alphabet, every child loves to see their name spelled out.

 

Here they are shown on the refrigerator but they could be used on a magnetic board or file cabinet in the office, a recipe stand, any metal object that these will stick to.  You can embellish these but since we designed ours for little fingers, we left them plain. 

 

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #1 Serif Essentials Alphabet

For our "last month" (more on that later) of Big Shot Wednesdays, we thought we'd change it up a bit and use the Serif Essentials Alphabet set.  We thought it would be challenging to try and come up with some simple but great projects for you.

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #5 Buttons #5

Wow!  What fun we've had creating this month's projects.  After all, we LOVE buttons.

This last project is absolutely adorable. We created a bracelet that anyone would love to wear.

The bracelet is one we bought at the local hobby store in the jewelry section.  The "links" are flat disks giving us something to adhere our flowers and buttons to. 

These flowers were made with the new DSP, Island Oasis, and the Stampin' Up! exclusive Big Shot die, Floral Fusion.  There are six flower layers and we used the button die in 3 of the 6.  We used white brads in the other three.  The buttons have been threaded with linen thread.  Of course, you could make the whole bracelet with buttons only and it would be fun and cute.  What a great project to make and coordinate for all of you going to convention!!!!  If you do, we would LOVE to see them!

Big Shot Wednesday-Week #4 Buttons #5

Since June has five Wednesdays, you are going to get 5 great ideas this month. Be sure to come back next week for one more button idea.  But first, week 4!  After using the round tins to make all of our cupcake pin cushions, we had the lids leftover.  We created this week's project using those leftover lids.  These lids are filled with a piece of cork and decorative thumb tacks.  The lids have magnets adhered to the back so they "stick" to our magnetic boards very well; that way, we always know where to find them.

These vintage thumb tacks were made using old sheet music that was glued to Stampin' Up's wood sheets, page 158.  Don't forget you can cut more than paper with the Big Shot.  The wood sheets give these thumb tacks stability but don't take away from the old sheet music.  Since we can't have "naked" buttons, we have threaded the buttons with ribbon.  All the buttons are sponged with Creamy Caramel.  

This sample shows you that this project does NOT have to be vintage and that "YES" we still do other styles of stamping:):)

These are still made with leftover lids, cork and thumb tacks; but, we glued three small die cut buttons together before adhering to the thumb tacks.  We used Pixie Pink and Only Orange card stock - both retiring this month.  We used a white gel pen to create our faux thread for these buttons.  We also covered these buttons with Crystal Effects.....you could also add a little glitter!

Thumb tacks are so reasonable you can keep the same lid and the same cork but change the thumb tacks for every holiday!  We need a red, white and blue theme!

It would be fun to create matching magnets.  Make the buttons just like we did but attach them to small magnets.  While you are at it, why not create matching paper clips.  We see a theme developing!!!!  What a great gift for a co-worker.

 

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #3 Buttons #5

For week 3, we decided to share with a couple of different ways to use the die cut buttons on cards.   On this first card, we simply used the buttons to create an accent border. The buttons were threaded with button twine.

Supplies used:

• Card Stock - Basic Black, Whisper White, Real Red, retired DSP
• Ink - Basic Black, Real Red
• Stamp set - Always, Tiny Tags
• Other - Dimensionals, Red & White Baker's Twine, Medium Jewelry Tag punch 

For another idea, we used the buttons to create these cute "button" flowers!

The buttons were cut out of the DSP(retired) and layered using 3 different sizes of the buttons and linen thread was used on the small button center.

Supplies for this card are similar to the above card, but here they are:

• Card Stock - Whisper White, Real Red, retired DSP
• Ink - Old Olive, Real Red
• Stamps - Tiny Tags, For All You Do, Itty Bitty Backgrounds
• Other - Medium Jewelry Tag punch, 3/4" Polka-Dot Real Red Grosgrain Ribbon, Nestabilities, Black and White gingham ribbon

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #2 Buttons #5

Here we have used the die to create this fun bouquet of button flowers.  We used all three sizes of circle buttons to create our flowers. 

As you can see in this picture, the buttons were cut out and layered multiple times - at least 5.  We glued all five or more layers together with a glue stick.  This creates dimension like "real" buttons.  We "strung" the buttons with black wire that was twisted to create our stems.  These flowers were created with Real Red and Pumpkin Pie card stock but you could use any color scheme.

As you can see, we chose to put our bouquet in one of our vintage spools but they are very cute in a small glass vase as well.  We tied more of our vintage scrunched ribbon around the spool.

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #1 Buttons #5

Buttons here; buttons there; buttons everywhere!!  Or not, if you create these perfect containers to store all your buttons.  The colored buttons on top were made with the Sizzlit die, Buttons #5, and shows you what color of buttons are stored in the tin.  We used all kinds of scraps - card stock and DSP.  We used all four shapes and sizes of buttons and each one has been threaded with button twine.  We used a fun DSP to cover the outside of the die coordinating with the button colors. 

This is a great way to store your buttons but it would also be a great party favor or gift container.  We LOVE buttons and this was a fun way to use up scraps.

For the pink tin we used several shades of pink card stock and DSP.   The tin is covered with DSP from Tea Party but you could use anything you love.

 
For the black and white container, we used retired DSP BUT some we absolutely LOVE.  The buttons on top are Whisper White card stock (some have been embossed) and Basic Black card stock and DSP from Grooms Specialty paper.

So there you have it.  Our first Big Shot project for the month of June.  If this is your first time visiting, we pick a new die each month and show various ways to use the die - sometimes really thinking outside the box.  We'll have some more fun button ideas for you next week!

  

Big Shot Wednesday - Week #4 Perfect Setting

For our last Big Shot Wednesday project using the Perfect Setting die, we've created a couple of different ideas.  First, are these elegant but simple looking tea light shades.  These were made to fit two different sizes and styles of glasses.  The taller of the two is a wine glass and the shorter one is a larger glass votive holder.

Both shades were made with card stock vellum but embossed with two different embossing folders.  The wine glass was made with the Polka Dot folder and the shorter votive was made with the new Square Lattice folder. 

You can further embellish these "shades" with ribbon, as we did, or rhinestones, brads, etc.

With the 4th of July just around the corner, we created 2 different looks using these little tea light holders.  They would compliment any table giving it just that perfect little "spark" :)

These tall thin votives were found at Pottery Barn last year.  Check to see what colors they have this year.  The white one has an "upside down" shade around it we created using Brilliant Blue card stock and Real Red grosgrain ribbon.

The red votive has a "band" made with two of the smaller die cuts layered on top of each other.  We embellished with stars.
