Sew glad were friends...

Sewing is hot, hot, hot right now.  There are so many fun projects out there that incorporate sewing, from 3-D projects to cards and paper sewing to fabric sewing!

 
 

This card uses the Sew Suite stamp set from Stampin' Up!.  The ribbon was stamped using the tape measure stamp and black ink.  The sewing machine was colored with Copic markers.  The saying was printed out on the computer and then small faux stitches were added.

 

Other supplies used:  Big Buttons, fabric brads, rhinestone brad, Sweet Stitches and Rose Red patterned paper, Scallop Trim Border punch

It's hard to believe that this is the last Freebie Friday for February!!  Where did the month go!

Today, we are going to share with you two examples we created for this tutorial.  One could be used as a sewing gift holder and one you could use for a coffee or tea packet/bag.

First is the sewing "gift" holder.  For this one we used the Sew Suite stamp set, Pear Pizzazz, Basic Black, and Whisper White card stock.  The dotted patterned paper is from Cosmo Cricket.  We tied the packet together with Old Olive Satin ribbon.  We created our own saying and added faux stitching!  We enclosed a small travel sewing kit.

Next is the coffee/tea bag gift holder.  We used the Tiny Teacup stamp, Springtime Vintage patterned paper, and Very Vanilla card stock.

Now, let's get started so you can create your own!

Gather your supplies.  You'll need card stock, patterned paper, scissors, glue, a scoring tool, ribbon and embellishments for the front of your card.

Cut a piece of card stock 3-1/2" x 9-3/4".  Score at 3-1/4" and 6-1/2".  Measure up 1" from the lower right corner and draw a line to the top of the second score line.  Cut this corner off.

 

Next, add Sticky Strip, or in this example, we used Scor-tape, along the right side and the bottom (of this section only).  See the photo below.

 

Remove the protective cover from your tape and fold this section over, adhering it to the middle section.  This forms the pocket for your "goodie".

 

For the front, cut one piece of patterned paper 3-3/8" x 3-1/8", and three pieces of card stock (for layers).  The first layer is 2-1/4" x 2-3/4"; the second is 2-1/8" x 2-5/8" and the third, which is the one you will stamp your image on, is 2" x 2-1/2".

 

Glue all your layers together and place on your project.  Remember, if you are going to stamp an image you will want to do that prior to gluing it on your project.  Our embellishments were cut out, punched and were added later.  Fold your card together, creasing well.  Punch a hole through the front and back at the same time creating the path for your ribbon.

 

You are now ready to decorate the front of your gift holder.  We used this cute "Tiny Teacup" from Stampin' Up.

Add your gift inside.  Run ribbon through the holes and tie!

It's a Cupcake Kind of Birthday

This card is perfect for any birthday - adult or child.  We were inspired to create this card from one that Mary Brown created.  Who doesn't like cupcakes, and especially ones that are so cheerful.

To create this card, cut three layers from Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie and Pear Pizzazz.  Stamp the cupcake "papers" in three colors of your choice -- we used the same three colors from above.  These are all layered on a Whisper White card stock base. 

 

You can see here that the frosting was stamped in Early Espresso and 1/4" circle confetti was added.

Chocolate To Do List...

Doesn't everyone have a Chocolate To Do List?  If you are a chocolate lover you do! 

 

The card stock featured in this card are Chocolate Chip, Close To Cocoa (retired SU!), Pink Pirouette and Whisper White.  The perfect combination for a "yummy" chocolate card. The stamp set is "Eat Chocolate" by Stampin' Up which can be found in the new Occasions Mini Supplement.

 

Here is a close up of the teeny tiny cupcake, from the same set, that was stamped, cut out and then topped with Crystal Effects and some glitter!  Add it to the center of a pink Designer Big Button with some Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon and twine.

Freebie Friday "Pop Top" Gift container

TGIF!  Happy Friday, everyone.  We had so much fun last Saturday, getting together with our "old" Stampin' Up! buddies for a little shoebox swap.  We'll be sure to share lots of ideas with you later, and tomorrow we meet up with one of our design team members for some creating time but first this oldie but goodie freebie idea.

 
Here are your step-by-step instructions to complete this tin can project,

First you are going to need to gather your supplies.  The most important, of course, is a "pop top" can in which you have opened from the bottom.  This takes a special can opener. Click on photo to see a larger image. 
This one was purchased at Bed, Bath, & Beyond and Pampered Chef carries this kind too.  For our project we used:

Supplies:

• Ice Cream Parlor buttons and ribbon from Sale-a-bration
• For All You Do and Punch Bunch stamp sets
• Old Olive, Whisper White and Melon  Mambo card stock
• Tombow glue and Sticky Strip tape
• 1-3/4" scallop circle punch

 

Next, cut your paper to fit whatever size of can you have chosen to use.  This one was a small can of fruit so the paper was cut at 3" x 8-1/2".

Stamp your images on the wrap.  We sponged clouds and stamped stems.

To make the grass, we cut a stripe of Old Olive 3/4" x 8-1/2".  We used scissors to make the strips for our grass.

Add Sticky Strip to the end and wrap around the can.

 

Add the grass around the bottom and then place your buttons on the stems.  We used embroidery floss to thread our buttons and glue dots to attach the buttons.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To decorate the top rim of our can we used the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch and Melon Mambo.

Layered the Ice Cream Parlor ribbon on this strip and attach to the top edge of the can.

 

Next, we created a tag.

Stamp the flowers from the Punch Bunch stamp set in Old Olive and Melon Mambo.  We cut out the flowers and layered them on the Old Olive set.

Punch the Old Olive stamped piece with the scallop circle punch and a scallop circle from Melon Mambo.

Stagger the Mambo scallop behind the stamped scallop.

Attach the ribbon piece to the top of the can using Tombow glue.

Tie the tag on with a little piece of ribbon, hemp or Baker's Twine.

You are now ready to fill your can with a gift or goodies.  Place your item or items inside the can.  Using Tombow, add a small thin layer around the edge of the bottom of the can.  Place it on the can and let dry.

That's it.  So easy and what a fun way to present someone with a gift.  You'll keep them guessing as to how in the world you got the gift in can.

Never to late to say I Love You..

Even though Valentine's Day has passed, it's never to late to say I Love You!  We had to share this great technique using an embossing folder to create this look.  We have seen several sites that have used this technique and couldn't wait to try it. 

 

 
To create this "embedded" look, we glued three hearts onto Whisper White card stock and then ran it through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice embossing folder.  An easy technique but a great way to create your own background paper.

Supplies:

• Card Stock - Real Red, Whisper White, Basic Black
• Stamp Sets - Filled with Love
• Punches - Full Heart punch, Heart to Heart punch, 7/8", 1", 1-1/8" circle punches
• Other - Square Lattice embossing folder, black grosgrain ribbon, red and white Baker's twine

This technique works for many ideas...give it a try.

Dumb Dumb Valentine?

Seriously....There is no such thing as a Dumb Dumb Valentine but there is such a thing as a "Dum Dum" Valentine. LOL  See below.......

 

Are you disappointed?  These are so cute, fun and so easy!!

 

We first started by cutting out a scallop heart using Rose Red card stock and the largest scallop die from Nestabilities.  We then layered a regular heart cut from a piece of patterned paper from the Sweet Stitched set.  The "Be My Valentine" banner is from the stamp, Be My Valentine.  It was also stamped on Rose Red card stock.  We punch a hole on both sides of the sucker stick with the Crop-a-Dile so that we could run the ribbon through and tie on the Dum Dum sucker.

Freebie Friday Gift Card holder

As promised, today we are not only sharing this gift card holder but a "how to" achieve a soft suede look as a background on your project by using just your stamp pad. There is still time to make one of these to give to that special someone in your life for Valentine's Day!

 

As always, gather your supplies before you begin.   You will need the following for this project:

A 3x6 envelope, ink pad, card stock, patterned paper, a bone folder, glue, punches and other goodies for embellishments.

 

 

 

 

The first step is to create this easy soft suede looking background.  All you need is your envelope and a stamp pad.  We've used Stampin' Up! Blushing Bride for this project.

Lay your envelope flat and with your stamp pad every so lightly run it back and forth and up and down over your envelope until you have the desired look and depth of color.

This is called direct-to-paper and can be done on any paper to create a wonderful background.

The next step is to prepare the envelope for the gift card holder.

First, fold the envelope in half, creasing well.

Next, fold the flap with the adhesive in half, using the glue as your guide, simply crease the flap along the bottom of the glue line.  Dampen the glue or use a tape runner to glue this part of the flap down.

It should look like this.

Now you are ready to start on the "gift card holder insert" that will slide into the envelope, just under the flap.

Cut a piece of card stock, we used Blushing Bride, 3-3/8" x 3-1/4".

On the top which is the 3-3/8" side, using your 1/2" circle punch to create the small half circle which allows you to grasp the card. 

Along the bottom, punch one time using the slot punch to create the flap to hold the gift card.

Add the gift card and embellish the top of the gift card holder.  For this project, we used two pieces of Making Memories patterned paper.

The polka dot strip is 1/2" x 3-3/8".  The heart was punched from the same paper using the Stampin' Up! small heart punch.

Slide your gift card holder into the envelope.

Now you are ready to decorate the front, which is the bottom part of the envelope.

Fold the bottom of the envelope up where you creased it earlier.

Cut a piece of patterned paper 3-3/8"  x 2-5/8" and glue to the front.

To create an embellishment and the closure for the holder we stamped an image from the Stampin' Up! Vintage Label set onto Naturals Ivory card stock using Blushing Bride ink.  It was punched out using the scallop punch.

You can create any embellishment for the center.  We chose an element from My Minds Eye called Market Street "Love Brads".

Put this element together and glue just the very top of it to the top of your flap.

You will also need to punch a second scallop circle to help complete your closure.  We have used the small magnetic disc from Basic Grey.

Once you have glued the first scallop onto the flap, glue either the negative or positive piece of the magnet in the center of the back side of your scallop.  Glue the second scallop over the top being careful to glue only around the edges, not on top of magnet. Add another small punched heart if desired.

You can now place the other part of your magnet right on top of the other (which is under the paper) so you can add glue to it and close the flap allowing the glue to dry.  When it's dry your second magnet will be in the right place for the perfect closure every time.

" For You" is also a stamp from Vintage Labels.  It's stamped on Naturals Ivory in Early Espresso and punched out using the small oval and layered on the large oval which is Blushing Bride card stock.  Dimensionals were used to adhere the message.

So here is a picture of the gift card holder insert and your finshed gift card holder.

So sweet...

My son Mason's best friend, Cayden, was over the other night and was telling me about his "4" month anniversary coming up with his girlfriend.  Yes, if you have a teenager (my youngest is 17) then you'll understand.  If not, well they celebrate their "anniversaries" often.  LOL  Anyway, Cayden said, "Hey "Ma," can you help me make a card for Jali for our 4 month.  <grin>  This was really not an odd request at all for me because not only does my daughter stamp but all of my sons have been known to make a card here and there over the years!  So, here is the card Cayden, Mason and I designed for Joli.

 

Now, remember, I simply guided Cayden and he did the rest!  He chose the colors, decided on what to say, punched, glued, laughed, and punched some more.... It was so fun watching the boys in my studio creating this card.  They, of course, LOVED the Big Shot because it's sort of a machine you know.  :) And, they had fun, trying to decide where to put things and discussing it amongst themselves...too cute!

I created the words for the heart on the computer and printed them out on white card stock and then Cayden ran it through the Big Shot using one of the heart dies from Nestabilities.

 

Supplies used for Cayden's card, or should I say "Jali's" card were:

• Card stock - Ultra Smooth White, Basic Black and Real Red, all Stampin' Up!
• The words "together" are from the Stampin' Up! stamp set In A Word
• XOXO - is a rub on from the Valentine package from Stampin' Up!
• Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder
• Large Oval and Scallop Oval punches, also Stampin' Up!
• Memento Black Ink
• Retired 1/2" Red Polka Dot Ribbon from Stampin' Up!

This was a good day!
