Apple Butter Recipe, Yum!

Another great fall recipe for this marvelous Monday!  Apples are definitely plentiful this year and I love this simple apple butter recipe.  I used to make this by the MANY crock pot fulls when we used to sell all our homemade jams and jellies and the craft festivals.

Retired card stock and DSP were used but it fit the fall occasion.  The apple stamp is from the current hostess set, Apple Blossom.  The "SWEET" is from the On a Pedestal stamp set.  It is simply embellished with a button, gingham ribbon and sponging.

One More Quilted Paper Art Sample!

Actually, we did two of the same project BUT with two different color themes to show you how different you can make these look.  This would be an adorable Valentine's gift/favor.  We created a "cover" to go around the small sample box of chocolates.  It is the one that holds about four pieces of chocolate.   This sample uses only two patterns from the Play Date patterned paper. We used a flower brad from the Designer Brads - Flower found on page 187 in the main SU! catalog. 

 

 

Here is another sample using the same pattern but we used four colors and patterns from the same Play Date DSP.  In the center of this heart we used a Build-A-Brad.  Both chocolate samplers are tied with the 5/8" Whisper White Organza ribbon.

Just "Bingo"

We have shared many different themed Bingo cards and ideas but today, we want to share with you our just "bingo" cards.  This card template works exactly like all our Paper Fashions templates.....they are sizable.  Here is a fun card using the Bingo card as one of the layers on the card.  For those of you who have been afraid to try these because you aren't sure how they work, this is the perfect template to try.  It is only $1.95.  Once you try it, you will want to see all the other themes we have.

 

The flowers are made with the scallop and circle punches.  We used the Wicked Fun Specialty paper for our flowers.  This really shows that you can make a non-Halloween card with this specialty paper!

 

 

Wonderful Friend Card Share

This card brings in some of the lovely fall colors and it is one of those cards that can be used for many occasions.

 

In this close-up photo, you can really see the detail of the way the flowers were layered as well as the detail on the background that was created using an embossing folder.

Take 2 Tuesday - Candy Corn Tote

 
This is Take 2 Tuesday #2 for our Gift Tote tutorial.  Last week we told you that you might not recognize some of our new ideas as the same pattern.  This candy corn tote is one of them.  We sewed the three colors of felt together and then cut out the pattern.  We also shrank the pattern for this tote.  That is one great way to change up the pattern - decrease or increase the size.  The inside is lined with white felt.  We're sure you could use fabric glue or hand stitch this small tote, but we have been wanting to use our sewing machines a little more so.......................

 
The original tote pattern measures about 6" tall (does NOT include the handles) and this reduced size is about 3-1/2" tall.   We filled our festive tote with a cello bag full of fun Halloween mix.

 

Here is the recipe for this yummy treat!  This can be made for any holiday by just changing the color of "embellishments".

Halloween Chex Mix (from the Chex website)

• 9 c. Rice Chex cereal
• 1 c. white vanilla baking chips
• 1/2 c. peanut butter
• 1/4 c. butter
• 3/4 c. powdered sugar
• 1/2 c. orange, yellow and brown M&Ms
• 1/4 c. orange, yellow and brown sprinkles

Place cereal in a large bowl.  In a small microwavable bowl, melt vanilla chips, peanut butter and butter on High 1 to 1-1/2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted and smooth.  Pour over cereal, stirring until evenly coated.

Place half of the cereal mixture in a 1-gallon ziploc bag.  Add powdered sugar.   Seal bag and shake until well-coated.  Spread on waxed paper to cool.

Meanwhile stir M&Ms and sprinkle into remaining half of cereal mixture.  Spread on waxed paper to cool.

To serve, mix both cereal mixtures together.  Store in airtight container.

Holly, Holly, Holly Card

We thought we better start thinking about Christmas cards.  You know how easy it is to wait until the last minute to do your own cards.  This card is similar to a card I did for my September card class BUT I definitely "upped" the amount of cutting.  The Bells & Boughs stamp set, from the Holiday Mini catalog, was used for this traditional Christmas card.

 

This close up shows the detail of all the holly pieces that were cut out and popped up.  Crystal Effects were added to the berries for added dimension.  The holly was colored with stamp pads and a blender pen.

• Ink - Garden Green, Real Red, Staz-On Black
• Stamps - Bells & Boughs
• Other - Wide Oval punch

Happy Birthday Coffee Cozy Idea

We've shared how to create a four page Coffee Cozy album and a six page Halloween mini album, so how about something on a smaller scale

This sweet little 2-page album is actually a gift card holder.  The step-by-step tutorial will give you details on how to put your albums together but this one is held together with 5/8" grosgrain ribbon.

 
Here is the inside.  You can see we put a sentiment on the inside just like a card.  You can see the the gift card is attached to the pocket insert with glue dots so as not to damage the gift card.

 
The pocket insert has a tab attached so that it shows above the cozy card.  We used the Round Tab punch to create the "for you" tab.

 
The card/albums are all made with cardboard coffee cozies - like you see at coffee shops.

A BIG Halloween Treat!

Happy Thursday to you all.  We hope you are having a wonderful week and are enjoying the fall weather wherever you may be.  With Halloween just around the corner, we thought you could use another BIG treat idea...

The DSP used for this large candy bar is Wicked Fun Specialty.  The bats are flocked.  Since the paper was already embellished, we decided to keep any additional embellishments simple.

The tag was created using one our Halloween Mini Bingo cards from Paper Fashions.  It is only 1-1/2" x 2-1/4" and is layered on Rich Razzleberry and Basic Black card stock.

Fall is in the air...

We are pretty sure the trees are turning in some of your areas like they are here in Kansas.  We have already had a frost warning the last couple of nights.  That is NOT what I want to hear since most of you know by now, I am SO NOT a cold weather person.  Give me heat, sun and the beach any day:)

However, I do believe fall is a beautiful season.  Here is a card we made in my September card class.  For those of you who have been with Stampin' Up! for awhile like we have, it is amazing that this stamp set, Lovely as a Tree, is still around.  It is probably because it still works so well.

Since most of us are always looking for masculine ideas, I believe this card could work for that quite well.

 
Sometimes we forget that the simplest techniques are the best.  This tree was stamped in brown and colored in with sponge daubers and ink pads.  You can't get much simpler and what a great way to get multiple colors for fall.

• Ink - Garden Green, More Mustard, Cajun Craze. Brown Staz-On
• Other - More Mustard buttons, Hemp twine, sponge daubers

Take 2 Tuesday - "Fall" Gift Tote

 
 
This month we will be sharing four more samples using our Glamorous Gift Tote tutorial.  We first featured this back in May of 2009 and have been ready to show you more ways to use this versatile tote.  You can make it for ANY occasion or holiday.  We believe you will be quite surprised at how different each sample will be this month. 

Today's tote is seasonal - fall.  It doesn't matter if this is for a birthday, thank you gift, or National Boss Day (October 16th), this tote will be the perfect way to present  your gift. 

 

The supplies used to create this tote are:

• Card stock - Early Espresso, More Mustard
• Specialty DSP - Autumn Spice from the Holiday Mini catalog
• Other - old vintage brown buttons, braided handles

The front and back of this tote are made with the Autumn Spice DSP and the sides are cut from Early Espresso.  Since the paper doesn't need much embellishing, we kept it simple.  We added brown vintage buttons found at an estate sale.  The handles are actually from a child's braided leather belt.  We cut the belt in half to form our to handles.  The original pattern comes with a pattern for paper handles but as you can see, it is so much fun to find other things to use.
